This week brought one surprise obsession that pretty much everyone I know is into, plus a handful of real gems. Yes, I’m spinning the new Kendrick Lamar as much as anyone, but I’ve also been pressing a pair of incredible electronic albums you’ll want to hear. One brand new, one stone cold classic. During my usual detour into the past, I even watched one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. Hint: it’s pictured above.
CFCF – On Vacation
One of my many talents is the ability to be surprised, I guess. Because it seems to be happening more and more often lately.
As the news of a Grammy nomination were swirling around CFCF, aka Michael Silver, I noticed a message slipping in: he’s got more music coming soon. Very soon. Like, there’s a full album out right now. It’s called On Vacation.
And so it goes.
Suryummy – Genesis Clarity
Genesis Clarity is so profoundly deserving of attention that I had to dedicate a second post to it. I’ve recommended this to everyone who will listen and mentioned it on my week in music a few days ago, but I can hardly find any chatter online. I’ve got one friend who’s listened, so I’ve only got one person to talk about it with. Let’s change that!
This kind of discovery needs to be shouted from the rooftops. It’s a revelation. Suryummy has created a true blue adventure.
Surprise new Kendrick Lamar album: untitled unmastered
I woke up to some really interesting news. Kendrick Lamar dropped an official collection of many of the songs he’s been debuting on Colbert, Fallon, and other one-time appearances over the last year. I’m just posting to share the new with any friends and readers who haven’t heard yet.
The whole brief album is streaming right here:
What I’m Into This Week (2/28 – 3/5)
This week in music features a big dip into the past, plus something super new. I also need to mention the movie I watched instead of the Oscars, because it’s the best I’ve seen in weeks. All I know about Sunday’s ceremony is that Ennio Morricone finally won and so did Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s a good thing; this music is more interesting and important.
I’ll start with the new music because it’s the most deserving of attention.
What I’m Into This Week (2/21 – 2/27)
I feel like I’m going to start doing a weekly post about the albums I’m listening to. That way, even if I don’t end up writing something lengthy about a given album, I’m still spreading the good word.
So here goes.
Ohmu
Tonight I’m feeling like this.

Because I’m listening to this:
Seriously, I feel like a post apocalyptic princess fulfilling a prophecy by befriending a hyper-intelligent bug, saving the world from mutant nuclear annihilation.
Thanks for the incredible song, Dip In The Pool.
I heard of this band because of CFCF. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know why.
