에프엑스 – Red Light music video

I’m new to k-pop but I’ve often enjoyed what little I have heard in the past, far more than American counterparts in the sugary pop game. Other than Taylor Swift, there’s nothing currently on Top 40 radio that I’m remotely interested in. I like to hear pop that crackles with audacity.

This brings me to the earworm-worthy tune below: Red Light, the first song I heard by Korean pop stars 에프엑스 – aka f(x).

Also, here’s my favorite comment on the video page:

Patrick Bateman: “They seem like nice Amish girls.”

I know I’m not supposed to look at the comments. Especially me. I even have an award at my office for Angering The Most Racists in light of certain shenanigans. Still, I’m perpetually drawn back, beating my eyes against the tide of Internet Comments. At least I’ve learned to stop commenting myself. Some of the time.

Following that tangent, I’ll leave you with a request:

Please comment here! I miss getting regular feedback from friends and strangers! I miss hearing new music when someone sees what I’m into and has a suggestion of their own. That interaction is the genesis of this post. I was curious about k-pop and a knowledgeable friend shared a few key songs that he felt I’d enjoy. This sort of art discovery is just the best.

Thanks for reading and listening, everyone!

  1. I don’t usually comment on things but I thought I’d just say I’ve been really enjoying your blog for a long time now and it’s actually given me the boot up the ass that I needed to start my own. It’s sort of my new year’s resolution so I’ll probably give up in a month but until then… Anyway, can’t say I know much about K Pop but that song is pretty wild. Sounds like 5 different songs mashed together.

      • At this stage the blog is just music but i’m only about 4 blog posts in so who knows, might dabble in film and literature at some point. I decided to tackle some of my favourite albums from 2014 so I’m working through that now. I remember finding your blog years ago on last.fm. You posted in the comments sections of all my favourite albums that year. I wanted to try and get my blog going a bit before drawing in readers but here it is at the moment: http://particularsound.blogspot.com

Still working out design and formatting. Let me know if you have any recommendations. I really have no idea what I’m doing! Anyway, thanks for the great reading over the years :)

        • I like it! Thanks for sharing. I appreciate the sentiment in that first post; I’ve often had this discussion when talking to people about Fez, one of my favorite games of all time. The creator flipped out on twitter and alienated some thin-skinned fans, and said mildly offensive things, and people are boycotting one of the most beautiful aesthetic and intelligent puzzle games of all time, and it makes me sad to know that some won’t get to experience it for such a dumb reason.
Anyway, I don’t have any wordpress recommendations at the moment, other than, the sidebar seems extra large. I actually help build and write on blogs/sites for clients at my job, on wordpress, so I’m pretty decent at it, even though I neglect a lot of the special stuff when it comes to my own blog; that is to say, I’ll be happy to help if I can.

          • Thank you! I’m glad you found something to enjoy in it. Separating the experience from the politics of it all is the only way to avoid missing out on great art! And I agree on the sidebar point. I did have some idea of an archive and ads running next to it but the ads are just the pipe dream of a poor student. Anyhow, I’ve reduced the sidebar width and played with the padding a bit. I don’t have a design or programming background but I’m stumbling my way through it ok. The font is the only thing bothering me at the moment. Not sure what it is, but the text within each blog post just seems unprofessional somehow and I can’t put my finger on it. Also, I really appreciate your offer to help but I can’t afford to pay you or anything, and at this stage I’m happy just writing for myself. If I can get an audience later on then that would be great. Anyway, It’s great that you took the time to check it out! Really appreciate it.
